Shane Murray got his start in art as a kid growing up in Columbus, Ohio. He dabbled in various disciplines including illustration, painting, and photography. After High School he took a chance and moved to Los Angeles in search of greener pastures. His desire to learn more about the people of the world led him to enlist in the United States Army as a Civil Affairs Specialist, and he was deployed to Afghanistan in 2011. During his time in the military he became fluent in Dari (Farsi), became a paratrooper and rose to the rank of Sergeant. He left the army in 2017 with an Army Commendation Medal, a NATO Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, and the Parachutist Badge.

“It was on the plane home from Afghanistan that I knew that whatever I did next, it had to be something I loved.”

Upon coming home from war in 2012, Shane decided that he would pursue entrepreneurship. After a stint as the owner of a computer repair company, Shane returned to art. He dedicated himself to honing his craft, enrolling in the Art institute of California where he climbed to the top of his class, earning Best of Quarter and the Presidents list in 2014. He has worked as a contractor with a number of clients under his LLC Space Whiskey, formerly known as Extra Life. Since its founding in 2015, Space Whiskey has worked with individuals and studios throughout the country, including Stapletoon Studios, Digital Wizards, Granity Studios, and Idea Farmer.

Shane currently lives with his girlfriend in Chicago, Illinois. They have no children and unfortunately, no pets either.
